→ Ethan Cooper’s Heaven

“After surviving a near fatal overdose, a young man becomes obsessed with the notion that the paramedic who saved his life is an angel sent from God to protect him.”

Ethan Cooper was born and raised in Athens, Ohio. From an early age he developed an obsession with film, writing, and all forms of storytelling in general. His passion was so great that he missed many days of middleschool attendance by hiding himself in the bathroom all day so he could write screenplays. This eventually brought him to Interlochen Arts Academy where he could apply himself fully to honing his artistic voice. It was there that he met actors, musicians, and fellow filmmakers who he would go on to collaborate with on his debut film "Heaven".

Unfortunately, a few months into post-production Ethan's life was tragically cut short. His cause of death was acute accidental fentanyl poisoning. He left behind this film which was intended to be the first of many, but is now his last. Over the past 6 months, his friends and family have worked to complete it, to honor his memory and to share his story with the world.

Heaven is the most important project I’ve ever had the privilege of working on. I had multiple roles in the filming such as boom operator, audio mixer, and background extra. After filming was done I stayed in Athens to begin work on the score,  which i completed over the following year.

I composed over 20 minutes of music for the film. It is currently on it’s festival tour, and so far has been an official selection at the 2023 Portland film festival.  Ethan Cooper posthumously won the directors award at the festival, where his parents were present to accept it.
